Ontario teachers' retirement savings are used to fund the climate crisis! The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) invests over $8B in fossil fuels. Together with Shift Action and their network of Ontario teachers, we are pushing for the OTPP to divest and take climate action seriously.

 

OTPP has made progress in its approach to climate change, setting a net-zero emissions by 2050 target, developing interim emissions reduction targets, and significantly scaling up its investments in climate solutions - but they continue to invest in the fossil fuel infrastructure and companies that are most responsible for climate breakdown. The decisions of pension funds like OTPP influence whether businesses in Canada and other countries build electric cars and solar panels, or diesel engines and gas pipelines.
